ABSTRACT

Most Common cause of infertility is oligospermia i.e. sperm counts below 20 million/ml, ejaculated volume below 1 ml, failure of liquefaction etc. In present study 50 cases of oligospermic men in their fertile age i.e. 25-55 years were registered, for study. All cases were free from any hormonal, organic or systemic pathology, hence they were considered to suffer with idiopathic oligospermia. The Unani formulation containing 5 ingredients was given in dosage of 10 gm powder twice daily for 40 days, and it was observed that the overall improvement in semen quantity, quality and sperm count etc., were found to be significantly improved

ABSTRACT

Skin diseases have high prevalence throughout the world which accounts for 10% of the workload of the family doctors. One of such disease is dermatophytosis [ringworm] which is caused by dermatophytes. They are more prevalent in economically under developed and developing countries where they contribute as a major health problem. The prevalence of superficial mycotic infections had risen to such a level that skin mycoses now affects more than 20-25% of the world population, making them one of the most frequent form of infections. In spite of the advances in antifungal and corticosteroid therapy which have completely altered the nature of skin clinics, there is no diminution in the number of patients with dermatophytosis attending for assistance. Subsequently the adverse effect of drugs has also worsened the condition. As per the literature of Unani System, two compound drugs viz. [Majoon Ushba] and [Marham Gulabi] which are supposed to be novel combination were chosen for this study as test group. The result was compared with Allopathic drugs viz. Griseofulvin and Sulphur Ointment as standard. Our study includes 30 .cases in each group. After completion of the study it was found that the test group was clinically as well as statistically significant at the same level as that of standard group

ABSTRACT

Morning sickness or simple emesis along with nausea is commonly present in 50% ladies during their pregnancy upto 12-14 weeks but when it becomes severe, it is called as hyperemesis gravidarum which exerts deleterious effects on the health of mother as well as of the baby. It may be a symptom of various medical-surgical-gynaecological complications and if it is not controlled in its early phase sometimes a hard decision of termination of pregnancy has to be undertaken. The guideline for treating ailments during pregnancy is first that the drug should be safe not to hinder with the continuation of gestation period. In this protective mode of treatment, our Unani herbal formulations have proved their superiority over the drugs of other systems. Present study was carried out to assess the efficacy of Jawarish Anarain in vomiting during pregnancy and results found were very encouraging

ABSTRACT

Asthma is a dangerous disease of the respiratory system. It affects about 4-5% population of the world and causes about 5000 deaths every year from 10 million patients with asthma at risk. In the materia medica of Unani system of Medicine, there are many medicinal plants attributed with bronchodilating, anti-histaminic and expectorant activities. These herbs can exhibit similar effect in asthma as modern synthetic drugs including bronchodilators, corticosteroids and mucolytic agents. Therefore we have evaluated the effect of a polyherbal formulation [comprising Adhatoda vasica, Glycyrrhiza glabra and Hyssopus officinal is] in patients with mild to moderate asthma. Twenty-five patients of mild to moderate asthma with positive history of allergy were included in the study. Main parameters included frequency of dyspnoea, rate of respiration and peak expiratory flow rate [PEFR]. These parameters were measured before the start of the study and during the study at a regular interval of 15 days for six weeks. It was found that after six weeks treatment, frequency of dyspnoea per week, rate of respiration and PEFR were 0.5 +/- 70 [205 +/- 74]*. Changes in all these parameters were statistically significant [p<0.001] as compared to baseline values. It was concluded that treatment with polyherbal formulation for six weeks results in significant improvement in the frequency of dyspnoea, rate of respiration and peak expiratory flow rate [PEFR] in asthma

ABSTRACT

Intestinal worm infestation is common throughout the world specially in the tropics which causes chronic ill health. Ascaris lumbricoides is the commonest helminthic infestation which is cosmopolitan in distribution. Prevalence rates of about 50-75% have been registered in many Asian and Latin American countries. It is estimated that about one fourth of world population is infested with it. It affects individuals irrespective of age and sex, and leads to malnutrition, anaemia, weight loss, gastro-intestinal disorders e.g., nausea, vomiting; several allergic manifestations and nervine disorders due to metastasis of its ova and larvae to various systems of human body. In our Unani System of Medicine several drugs are described as vermicidal [Qatile deedan] and vermifuge [Mukhrije deedan]. These can be used as single drugs or as compound formulations. A study was carried out at AKTC Hospital on 25 patients. A Unani formulation Qurs Deedan [Butea frondosa Roxb., Caesalpinia bonducella, Ptycotis ajowan, Embelia ribes, Ipomoea turpethum, Qand safed and gum arabica] was administered orally in a dosage of 2 tablets daily at bedtime with a glass of water for a period of 30 days. The results obtained are encouraging
